Bongani Njoli’s face may not be well known but mention e-tv’s famous ‘Friday Action Night’ promos and people’s eyes light up. He was the resonating voice behind the well-loved e-tv weekend blockbuster promos. A veteran voice-over artist and radio personality, he’s known for his easy-going professionalism, gentle manner and. His family treasure memories of his kindness and generosity, his humbleness in his relationship with his partner of 21 years.
We are proud to continue the legacy of this great man through the Radio Cape Town identifiers recorded in November 2022 before his untimely death in January 2023. Listen out when he speaks about his love for Cape Town and her people.
Bongani’s love for radio and voice-over work began as a student, working at UCT Radio in 1990. A qualified teacher, he was the first black DJ on Good Hope FM in 1994. In 2004, he joined the team that launched Discom Vibes, Clicks’ retail radio station. Here he was both presenter and music compiler until 2007. Later he did two shows for Heart 104.9FM until 2009. He later joined Cape Town’s Magic 828 in 2016. In 1999, with producer Gabi le Roux, he started a music production company, Ebomvu Entertainment. This provided the opportunity in 2000, to work on two SAMA-nominated albums as a music producer.
